Ben Lockwood homes in on the championship

Once again Ben drives brilliantly to claim third after a difficult weekend and a special well done to Craig who finished a faultless fifth!

Mini Max

Harry Campey: Harry used a 'Team' BRM chassis at Wombwell and looked like he'd been driving it for years, quickly on the pace on Saturday practice. Harry professed to not feeling too well on Sunday but he still managed to produce some good results and qualified well. Unfortunately Harry was then "removed from the track" by another driver who can at best be described as ambitious! The move resulted in a black flag for the driver in question but that was little consolation for Harry and his team who worked hard all weekend.

James Linguard: Fast improving James topped the time sheets all weekend at Wombwell but was another victim of an "ambitous" overtaking manouver and as a result only qualified 5th for the final. This soon become 4th as the leaders pulled away at the start. James battled hard but took a few too many laps to move up to 3rd although it was a great move when he did finally make the pass. At this stage though the leaders were too far up the field for James to make any headway and he had to settle for 3rd - a great weekend none the less.

Luke Marshall: Luke drove extremely well and consistantly all weekend but mechanical gremlins cost him a shot at a race win! First the chassis then the engine but Luke showed fantastic maturity and experience to keep his head. He kept pushing hard which resulted in some very good times, a good solid finish and a load of championship points. Luke is 3rd in the championship with 2 rounds to go.

Adam Wilson: Adam continued his progression and moved his driving to a new level showing off his overtaking skills at Wombwell to go with his pace. Adam was knocked off in heat three and that meant a compromised qualifying slot but he quickly moved through the field and finnised a career best 6th with personal best lap times to boot. Well done Adam!

Junior Max

Mark Stephens: Junior Rotax was elbows out as normal at SYKC's October meeting and Mark was twice in the first corner carnage but came through to qualify best of the three strong HUK Racing Junior Team only to be "punted off" at the start of the final. Mark rejoined well down the pack but battled his way back to ninth with some very fast laps. Unfortunately he ran out of time to make any progress through the leading pack but Mark should be happy with a great drive and more championship points in stock.

Craig Linscer: A race win for Craig in heat two was just rewards for the 13yr olds hard work this year and in all fairness Craig could have won all three heats this month! Only a puncture in the first heat held him back but a perfect start in the final saw Craig up to mid pack and with his best driving since he's been with the team, Craig took no prisoners on his way past some top drivers finishing a fantastic 5th - nice one Craig!

Ben Lockwood: Ben was involved in plenty of first corner trouble and had a DNF in heat two. This left the Huddersfield youngster with a lot to do in the final if he was to keep his championship push on track and a bad start didn't help! However, Ben went on to carve his way through the field with some great overtaking to finish 3rd and set the fastest lap! The best we've seen of Ben this year and he now leads the championship by some way with two rounds to go. Well done Ben!

"Wardy's Thoughts"

I always enjoy going back to Wombwell, it feels like going back home in racing terms! I have a lot of friends there, both officials and racers but driving standards must improve if we are to continue bringing new drivers with the team. I have never asked a team driver of mine to run another kart off the track by using them as a brake and I never will. Sometimes overtaking is misjudged and contact happens. I have no problem with that and expect my drivers to be aggresive at the right times but the driving at Wombwell in the last two meetings has been unacceptible at best and mostly unsafe. Five of my seven drivers had DNF's in the meeting with three of the offending drivers black flagged. Having said that the weekend was very well organised and bad driving was dealt with properly when it was seen. My thanks to Alf, Phil and Donna as well as the rest of the team. It was nice to see Pip Playforth in charge of the meeting. A man I have nothing for respect for and the right man to sort out the driving! Hard but very fair!!

Finally well done to Shaun and his team of mechanics - again the awning was run like clock work and a big thank you to Bert, Craig, Barry and Shaun for working 14 hours on Friday and setting up in the dark and the rain! Acadamy this weekend then it's off to Whilton!

Happy racing!
