Mini Max
Alex Taylor: Cold and damp conditions greeted the drivers on Sunday morning at PFi but after an excellent days testing every member of the team was ready for anything and Alex continued his excellent progress. In only his seventh ever race, once again he was mixing it with the top drivers at PFi and came out of it with nothing but praise from the team as he saved his best drive of the weekend for the Final (as at Whilton the week before) and finished 12th with some impressive lap times.
Tom Taylor: Mixed fortunes for Tom after his heroics the week before and with two first corner crashes in the heats Tom had to start the final from the back row. However, like his brother Alex, Tom gave it everything in the final, driving past novice and senior drivers setting some good times and proving to be a very consistent and natural racer - Junior Max look out!!
Adam Wilson: In his first race at the highly competitive PF International race circuit, Adam impressed everyone with his pace on Saturday and headed the time sheets in the difficult afternoon conditions. Adam was "taken off" in the third heat but still kept his head and drove his Ogden powered Gillard up to 11th in the final with some excellent overtaking. Adam has made some big improvements in his driving after only a short time with the team and now moves on to Wombwell and is fancied for a big result!
Luke Whitehead: Another great weekend from start to finish for Luke, even with engine set up problems on Saturday morning Luke was never more that two tenths off the pace and with the kart back to its best set the pace in the afternoon. A rare crash in heat two cost Luke pole for the final and seventh was the starting position which he quickly turned into third. The three leaders then sprinted away from the rest before "going to war" on the last three laps. What followed was some of the best racing I've seen as the lead seemed to change hands every corner Luke came away with a slightly unlucky but nonetheless brilliant 2nd place securing the championship with a round to spare. Well done Luke!!
Comer Cadet
Jon Wheeler: With only four days karting under his belt since passing his ARKS test HUK's youngest academy driver Jon Wheeler was contesting his second race and amazed me with his pace and corner speed against some much more experienced drivers and other drivers from one of TonyKarts big teams. Jon qualified first novice and led the race for the first few laps which prompted his mum to describe him as "a totally different driver" - Jon was in second place and still very much in contention when he was spun by the following kart on the last lap and had to settle for third novice. However he can be very proud of himself - well done little man!
Senior Max 177
Bert Swartfigure: Driving with the championship in mind Bert had an uneventful weekend - well for Bert that is! A throttle cable cost him in heat two and in the final he had a lonely race in third place from start to finish. "Job done" was the verdict and he moves into the last round of the championship in an unassailable 2nd place. We can only go forward from here so we'll give it our best shot. One of HUK Racing's most improved drivers this year.
"Wardy's Thoughts"
Firstly a massive thank you and well done to Shaun and our team of mechanics for their hard work this weekend. In difficult conditions they made it look easy which is a big credit to them.
Secondly, I'm very pleased to be able to confirm that Luke Whitehead has agreed to at least another year with HUK Racing. That's great news for everyone here and we celebrated it by taking the championship this weekend.
I'd also like to congratulate young Alex Gill as well as Denise and Steve (Mum and Dad) on winning the Comer Cadet Super One championship. A result of much hard work and a very popular result - very well done guys!
Next stop PFi - Happy Racing!
Wardy.
